    AUG

Urban Escrima practitioner Dave, agreed to answer some questions for us about his training at the club, enjoy!

Please introduce yourself, who are you and what do you do?

My name’s Dave Robinson, and I work in music, dealing with independent record stores – outside of work I play as much music as possible, currently playing drums in a hardcore band called Carnist & bass in a post-rock band called *shels.

What martial arts experience have you had previously and do you currently train in any other martial art/self-defence?

I have no prior martial arts experience at all.

How long have you been training in Escrima Concepts and what grade are you?

About 2 months, and I’ve just achieved Grade 1.

Why did you choose to train in Escrima Concepts?

Escrima Concepts was suggested to me by a friend, and after reading up on it & watching some videos online it struck me as the most practical martial art, with real life applications.

What is the one thing you most enjoy about training at Urban Escrima?

After every lesson I feel I’ve learned something new, in a positive, inclusive & machismo-free environment.

You recently attended the Knife Awareness seminar with GM Steve Tappin, how did you find that? What did you learn / enjoy from the day?

This was an amazing day – lots of hard work, but I felt like I learned tons – from being aware of your surroundings, to reacting to real situations. GM Steve Tappin has great ways of presenting all this theory and demonstrating it, then helping you to understand & apply it yourself. Couldn’t recommend this seminar highly enough.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of coming to train with us for the first time?

    Just go for it!
