Here is our latest student interview with Sunny. Enjoy.
Please introduce yourself, who are you and what do you do?
Hi, my name is Sunny and I work in Banking/Finance as my day job.
What self defence / martial arts experience have you had previously and do you currently train in any other martial art/self-defence?
I’ve done the rounds of the traditional martial arts throughout my life and more recently MMA, in my search for that elusive” perfect art”. I genuinely feel that all martial arts have their good points and it’s down to the practitioner to work out what personally works for them and build on it.
How long have you been training in Escrima Concepts and what grade are you?
I have only trained in Escrima Concepts for a few months I have already found it to a huge eye opener.
Why did you choose to train in Escrima Concepts and how does Escrima Concepts compare to what you have done before?
Training in a weapons based art has always appealed to me and what I like about Escrima Concepts is the focus it places on body mechanics and positioning, which I find is intuitive and easily grasped. Another great aspect of Escrima Concepts is how the concepts easily transition between armed/unarmed and onto the street.
What is the one thing you most enjoy about training at Urban Escrima?
I can honestly say that the most enjoyable thing aside from learning the art is the club atmosphere fostered by Charlie and Nigel. This is genuinely a club where ego is checked at the door and everyone is friendly and open regardless of skill level.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of coming to train with us for the first time?
For anyone who has a passion in martial arts try it! I guarantee that you will find something you can take away with you regardless of your background. For novices, this is a must for anyone getting into martial arts as the concepts approach will give you a solid foundation to build upon.
